A Stark Reminder

A few months ago, I met my neighbour’s aunt. She had come to visit and couldn’t remember the code for their electric gate. Someone told her I might know and I went with her to program it in.

A few weeks ago, I popped round to their house to borrow something and she was visiting. We sat in the garden and chatted for a few minutes. She looked to be in her early 60s, but young for her age and full of life.

Last night, she fell down the stairs and broke her neck. This morning, having declared her brain dead, the doctors turned off her life support in accordance with her known wishes.

This is so tragic I don’t even have the words. It’s also a stark reminder of how none of us know what is coming.

Wow – what a powerful post. An important reminder that life is fragile with no guarantees. I really appreciate what you share with us. And your art work is inspiring. Thank you.
